Judge Rules In Favor Of Unsealing Redacted Information In WWE Shareholder Lawsuit

New information about the lawsuit.
An update on the WWE shareholder lawsuit was provided by POST Wrestling. A judge has ruled in favor of unsealing redacted information in the shareholder suit concerning the 2023 merger.
In December, Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics and POST Wrestling filed a notice of challenge in the Chancery Court of Delaware. Thurston argued that the redactions in various filings were overly broad concerning the bidders’ financial offers.
KKR, one of the groups involved in the sale of WWE, concealed the specifics of its bid. They argued that confidentiality and the harm that a revelation would cause outweigh the public’s interest. They also added that future bidders would be scared off if they acknowledged that the terms of their bid would become public.
In Thurston’s challenging of that, he argued that KKR’s bid came with conditions regarding the participation of Vince McMahon in the sale.
Vice Chancellor Travis Laster made a ruling on March 4th and agreed to protect the cell phone numbers of the parties in question. He denied KKR’s request to continue keeping the bidding terms confidential.
When the sale process was underway, KKR entered a confidentiality agreement with WWE, but that is not something that would resolve a legal issue, claim, or controversy. When KKR got involved in the bidding process, they knew they could be subject to litigation.
Per the court, both parties must file an updated public version of their documents and remove the prior redactions that KKR was looking to uphold.
