Kacy Catanzaro Recalls Message From Shawn Michaels During NXT Women’s Tag Title Chase: “‘We Want The People To Absolutely Need For You Guys To Have The Titles'”

Catanzaro and Lane were the longest-reigning champions.
In 2021, WWE introduced NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships. The titles were featured for two years before they were folded into the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles.
One of the nine pairs to have held those NXT Titles was Kacy Catanzaro and Lacey Lane, f.k.a. Katana Chance and Kayden Carter. They were the second NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions and held the belts for 186 days.
Catanzaro reflected on that accomplishment while doing a virtual signing for K & S WrestleFest. She remembers NXT overseer Shawn Michaels expressing that he wanted to get the crowd to the point where they needed Catanzaro and Lane as champions.
“It’s funny because when you brought it up (winning WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles on main roster), I always think of the NXT titles first because that was such a big build for us where we were in NXT as a tag team and we were just pushing and pushing and pushing and pushing and pushing and losing and losing and it was like never our turn, and we were like, ‘Damn, are we ever gonna get there?’ And I remember Shawn (Michaels) saying, ‘We want the people to absolutely need for you guys to have the titles. We want it to be that,’ and in the moment, I’m like, ‘Damn, I want it to be our turn’ but when we finally won, it was so worth the wait. The crowd was so behind us, so I always think more of that big moment whereas the main roster was a little bit more kind of wishy-washy, you never know, and then it kind of happened but it wasn’t the same build accomplishment.”
The last NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions were the duo of Dakota Kai and Raquel Rodriguez. The WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles are currently in Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss’ possession.
