This was Kassius' second time on the WWE roster. He returned to the company in 2017 following another run on the independent scene after being released by WWE in 2013. His role this time around was primarily one of a gatekeeper for the NXT brand taking on high-profile signings in their first rivalry on NXT. Names like Matt Riddle, Kushida, Lars Sullivan, and Velveteen Dream all made their name in NXT by going through Kassius Ohno first.

Ohno would later be moved to NXT UK where he took on the persona of a wrestling genius. He called himself the greatest British wrestler because he was so proficient in the style.
