KC Navarro Looks Back On Wrestling Nick Wayne For Defy In The UK

KC Navarro reflects on working with Nick Wayne.

At Defy The Splendid and The Vile in the UK last year, Nick Wayne and KC Navarro would face off in singles competition with Wayne eventually coming away the victor in the matchup between two of the bright young stars of pro wrestling in 2024.

While speaking to Fightful’s Corey Brennan in a recent interview, KC reflected on his match with Wayne, admitting he didn’t expect to be involved in singles competition at the event.

“I thought it was great. I mean, like when I got told I was going to be a part of it, when you get thrown in, like you just get added. You’re not really supposed to be in it. Like I reached out to Defy, I go, listen, I will be there. Like I will fly myself. I will be there. Like I just want an opportunity. I want to be there. I have a good relationship with Matt Farmer, the promoter for Defy. You know, he was like, Oh, you know, I’ll let you know. When he said, yeah, and I got my flights booked and everything, you know, I didn’t know what I was doing until it got announced. So I didn’t even know I was wrestling Nick. I immediately thought like, oh, you know, I’ll be in a scramble, maybe a tag match, maybe like what I did at Progress, right? Like the 16 tag or the 8-man tag, whatever we did. Like, that’s what I expected. I didn’t expect them to give me an opportunity to face a Nick Wayne for everything that he’s doing. I mean, the guy’s younger than me, but I mean, damn, is he talented? I knew that from seeing him, but being in the ring with him was different. Man, I appreciated it. I thought it was really cool for me and him being two Americans coming to the UK to do that. Two young Americans, too. We’re not in our 20s and 30s, and we’ve been doing this for 20 years. We’re young guys that have only been doing this for a short amount of time. I thought it was really cool for us. I thought it was cool for the UK fans, the US fans, the Defy fans, the Progress fans. It was a win for everybody. I thought it was really awesome.”

While Wayne is currently aligned with Christian Cage in All Elite Wrestling, KC remains a staple of the independent wrestling scene in the States, and has just come off an appearance in the Progress Super Strong Style 16 tournament.
