Kenny Omega Feels Match Against Gabe Kidd At Wrestle Dynasty Would Have Been A Good Match To End His Career On

Omega and Tanahashi look back at the bout.

It was in January 2025 that NJPW, AEW, STARDOM, ROH, and CMLL came together to present Wrestle Dynasty at the Tokyo Dome.

The semi-main event of the show was a singles bout between Kenny Omega and Gabe Kidd. Omega was coming off the heels of battling diverticulitis.

He sat down with Hiroshi Tanahashi for an interview that was uploaded to NJPW WORLD and stated that the match against Kidd would have been a good one to end his career on. Omega added that after the bout, he felt like he could still go in the ring.

“Honestly, I’ve been thinking about retirement since my illness. Like, how would I want things to end. If my stomach was really bad, I think that Wrestle Dynasty Gabe Kidd match honestly would have been a good end. But I won, and I was happy with the performance. It would have been a good last match, but I felt I could still go, so it’ll be a little while yet (before I retire).”

Tanahashi chimed in and talked about the match making him emotional while he was on commentary. Omega stated that Kidd can make people feel, and Omega himself felt that emotion from the audience during the match.

Tanahashi: “That match was very emotional for me. Japan and U.S., you’re a top guy,” Tanahashi said to Kenny Omega. “But Gabe is still on the rise, but he’s a great wrestler.”

Omega: “Hungry, passionate, and he makes you feel, you know? I really felt the emotion of the people in that match…”

Tanahashi: “I was really moved. I cried a little.”

Tanahashi’s final match is coming up in January 2026 at Wrestle Kingdom 20. His opponent has yet to be announced.
