Kenny Omega Retains AAA Mega Championship At Triplemania XXIX, Ric Flair Appears

The Belt Collector's collection only suffered one hit this weekend.

After being released by WWE in March 2021, Andrade appeared - via video - at Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide's Rey de Reyes event on May 1. The former NXT Champion proceeded to challenge Kenny Omega to a AAA Mega Championship Match at Triplemania XXIX.

Andrade El Idolo would sign a contract with All Elite Wrestling in early June, guaranteeing that the AAA title would stay with someone from the promotion for the foreseeable future.

Ahead of the match, Andrade informed Konnan that he wouldn't need him in his corner as he had someone else more important with him. That person wound up being Ric Flair, who was also recently granted his release by WWE.

The two men had a closely contested encounter that saw numerous near falls. Andrade was also visibly frustrated with the referee who seemed to be working against him. At one point, Ric Flair even got involved in the match, chopping Omega and applying a figure-four to Konnan. Unfortunately for Andrade, Omega would hit him with the belt and then deliver a one-winged angel to pick up the win and retain his belt.

On August 13, AEW's newest show, Rampage, debuted and featured Christian Cage defeating Omega for the IMPACT World Championship. They will do battle once again at All Out on September 5th, this time for the AEW World Title.

Andrade El Idolo is also scheduled to compete at All Out in a match against PAC. Since coming to AEW, Andrade has had his eyes on the Lucha Brothers and potentially gaining their allegiance as he looks to make his way to the top of AEW. However, Penta El Zero M and Rey Fenix have already sworn their allegiance to PAC as members of Death Triangle.
