Kenny Omega: Whether He Knows It Or Not, Turning On AJ Styles Led To The Elite, Which Ultimately Led To AEW

Kenny Omega credits AJ Styles for his influence in creating The Elite and AEW.

AJ Styles is set to retire at some point in 2026, wrapping up a legendary career that began on the independents, took him to TNA and NJPW, and eventually WWE.

The end of his NJPW run came courtesy of Kenny Omega, who dismissed him as the leader of the Bullet Club and took his spot at the top.

“AJ, having a keen sense of what’s best for business, knew exactly how to go along with it. In a way, by his turning his back and allowing for that moment to happen, whether he knows it or not, that led to the forming of The Elite,” Omega told Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports.

The Elite consists of Omega and the Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson).

He continued, “Ultimately, it kind of led to AEW. Him being involved in our lives is very pivotal for the company and our careers.”

The rest is history.

Kenny Omega is set to team with Luchasaurus & Jack Perry against the Bucks & Josh Alexander at AEW Full Gear.
