KENTA: 'A Few Years Ago, Moxley And I Were At Different Levels, But I Don't Feel Like That Now'

KENTA is ready for a match against Jon Moxley, a man KENTA once felt was on a different level than himself.

Jon Moxley is still the IWGP United States Champion. Currently, there is a tournament underway to determine the next challenger for that championship. If KENTA can defeat David Finlay in the finals, he will have earned his right to challenge Jon Moxley for the IWGP United States Championship.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, KENTA really made it a point to say that he needs to be the guy to take the championship off of Jon Moxley and in the process, become the first-ever Japanese IWGP United States Champion.

“I said many times that I’m going to prove that I’m the best pro wrestler in this business. That’s why I’m here. I’ve had ridiculous past feelings here in America, and I want to get rid of that humiliation. That’s why this tournament is a great opportunity for me,” said KENTA. “I want to get the belt from Moxley. Honestly, a few years ago, Moxley and I were at different levels. But I don't feel like that now.”

He continued, “Life is funny. I think no one thought Moxley would do a match with me a few years ago. But if I win this tournament, it could come true. This is the best chance. I’ll shut up those who looked down on me. That is one of my motivations.”

Fightful recently spoke to David Finlay, KENTA’s opponent in the finals of the tournament. Finlay revealed that his dad, Fit Finlay, can still have a match even though he's been retired for many years. Learn more at this link.
