Kris Statlander: It Was Bittersweet Being Jade Cargill's Last AEW Match, There Was More We Could Have Done

On the September 15 episode of AEW Rampage, Jade Cargill wrestled her last AEW match, challenging Kris Statlander for the AEW TBS Championship.

Statlander defeated Cargill to win the title at AEW Double or Nothing in Statlander's return from injury. Cargill had just defeated Taya Valkyrie when she was confronted by Statlander.

Speaking to Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture, Statlander reflected on working with Cargill.

"It was terrifying to try and fill the shoes of such a star, that first night that it happened when I first became the champion. It was so exciting to be back and be part of the roster and an active wrestler again, of course, but there is so much pressure that comes with being a champion, being a worthy champion, and you don't realize it until you have the belt in your hands. Once the belt is in your hands, the target is on your back and everyone has a much closer eye on you," she said. "Being her last match, it felt bittersweet because I felt there was so much more I could have done with her. I feel like we really helped each other a lot and I'm just really proud I got to be the last match. I think it was a very fitting sendoff."

Statlander is the only woman to defeat Cargill in AEW. Cargill would officially sign with WWE on September 26.

Statlander will defend her AEW TBS Championship against Skye Blue and Julia Hart in a three-way match at AEW Full Gear. Fans can check out the lineup for the show by clicking here.
