Kurt Angle: I Wanted To Work A Program With Rob Van Dam As Much As I Wanted To Wrestle Bret Hart

Kurt Angle says he wanted to work a long program with Rob Van Dam just as much as he wanted to work with Bret Hart.

Kurt Angle and Rob Van Dam have been on opposite sides of the squared Circle many times in the past, but they have never worked an extended program where they were each other's significant focus. Despite this, they have worked together in WWE, WWE ECW, and TNA Wrestling.

The latest episode of the Kurt Angle Show podcast is centered around Rob Van Dam and the Olympian stated that he wishes he could have worked a long program with RVD and even stated that "The Whole F'N Show" is in the same category of dream opponents for himself as Bret "the Hitman" Hart.

"At this point in time, I wasn't really speaking up. I wasn't really happy with myself in the company and at this point in time, I really wanted to get out of the company, and that was my objective, to be honest with you," said Kurt Angle regarding why he didn't pitch a program between himself and Rob Van Dam during their time together in WWE ECW.

Moving on to their time together in TNA, Kurt Angle said, "I think it was as big as when I came in. Knowing Rob was coming in, a former WWE and ECW Champion, a huge star in the business, I was pretty excited about that. It wasn't that I was carrying the company on my back because we had great wrestlers, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Sting, Jeff Jarrett, all those people, but I felt like the company was mine to make it bigger than it was. Having Rob there really helped me out a bit."

Overall, they would never work a program together. Something Angle is very disappointed about.

"Unfortunately, we never had a program, never happened, never occurred. He's one of the guys I would love to have a program with. I mean, I'd actually have loved to wrestle Rob, to have a program with Rob, as much as I did with Bret Hart," he said.

High praise for Rob Van Dam from Kurt Angle. Van Dam would eventually join Angle and Bret Hart in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2021, being inducted in the WWE ThunderDome era in front of a digital audience. On that night, RVD gave Vince McMahon a very on-brand gift. Learn more here.
