Kurt Angle: Undertaker And I Didn't Need Gimmicks To Have Good Matches With Each Other

Kurt Angle believes he could've wrestled a technical match in a graveyard.

Kurt Angle and The Undertaker wrestled each other numerous times, but never in a one-on-one gimmick match. During the most recent episode of The Kurt Angle Show podcast, the Olympic gold medalist was asked which of Undertaker's signature gimmick matches, he would have enjoyed facing "The Phenom" in.

Angle surprised his co-host, Paul Bromwell, by saying he never wanted to compete in any of Undertaker's specialty matches. Angle says he preferred wrestling "Big Evil" in straight-up wrestling matches that showcased 'Taker's working ability.

"Undertaker and I don't need gimmicks. Our matches are so good, technically, in the ring, with nothing else, just the two of us. We had some of the greatest matches of all time. Don't get me wrong, gimmick matches are great. Fans love them, but I love wrestling guys like Undertaker, Chris Benoit, Shawn Michaels, and Stone Cold Steve Austin without having any gimmicks because you can prove that you can work with these guys and have amazing matches without all these gimmicks flying around everywhere," Kurt said.

Asked if he'd fight Undertaker in a graveyard, Kurt joked, "As long as it was a technical wrestling match in the graveyard. Yeah, we could do that."

Even though Angle had no interest in wrestling The Undertaker in any of his specific gimmick match types one-on-one, he and "The American Badass" did account for one-third of the field of competitors in the Armageddon Hell in a Cell match back in 2000. This was Kurt Angle's only time competing inside the Hell in a Cell structure.

Elsewhere on this podcast, Kurt Angle spoke about being open to the idea of competing in cinematic matches similar to what Undertaker did with AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36. Fans can read Kurt's comments here.
