Kyle Fletcher discusses the growth of the Don Callis Family and the appropriate number of members for a faction in professional wrestling.
Kyle Fletcher's career has grown as he has spread his wings as a singles competitor in AEW over the past several months. Under the tutelage of Don Callis, Fletcher has become one of the staple performers of the Don Callis Family faction, including names like Brian Cage, Lance Archer, and Konosuke Takeshita. Recently, the group added Josh Alexander and Rocky Romero, who, in addition to a returning Trent Beretta, helped straighten the group as other members are currently injured.
Speaking to Fightful's Iridian Fierro for Chicago's WGN Radio, Kyle Fletcher addressed Trent Beretta's return and Rocky Romero's addition to the Don Callis Family. He noted that he's had pre-existing relationships with the members of Roppongi Vice and is excited that those connections get to play out on TV.
"Rocky is someone that I met in 2017/2018, so it's one of those things where we've never been affiliated on TV together, but backstage, we have a really good relationship. Literally, that eight-man that you spoke about, that's the first time we'd ever teamed together. So like, you can see it in the match, we're out there and we're having banter. We're having fun with each other. It's because it's that real relationship now coming out and playing out on-screen. Same with Trent. I wrestled him in 2019 for the first time. So, it's cool to me when these pre-existing relationships now get to play out in front of fans, because they've never gotten to see this stuff. So like, I now get to bully Rocky on TV all the time. I can't wait."
Iridian followed up that statement with a question about the faction's size, including the members currently sidelined with injuries, and asked how many people are considered too many for a wrestling faction. To Kyle, the most crucial aspect is that every team member plays their role correctly, but he admits that the Don Callis Family may be playing jump rope with the line that divides factions from having the right amount of members and being bloated.
"I think it depends. Everyone needs to have a role in a faction. Everyone needs to have their lane and serve their purpose. I think when you just start adding people for the sake of adding people, that's when it's kind of like, 'Okay...' If you can't find enough TV time for everyone, and that kind of thing. I think the Don Callis Family is probably starting to teeter-totter on that line, but that just means I get to punch someone in the back of the head and throw them to the wolves."
