LA Knight Says Max Dupri Run Was Mentally Torturing, Believed It Was Career Suicide
LA Knight speaks on playing the Max Dupri character on WWE television.
When LA Knight debuted on the main roster in 2022, he was shown as the leader of Maximum Male Models, with his name also being Max Dupri. Knight would work this gimmick for a few months before changing it again.
Speaking with Sam Roberts and Megan Morant on WWE Now at Fanatics Fest, Knight said the following about doing the Max Dupri gimmick.
“The level of torture mentally that was for those few months where its like, ‘Alright I did this thing that brought me to the dance, undeniably, now you want me to just tuck it away over here? That makes sense, sure. Yeah, we’ll do that. Wait you’re gonna pay me how much? Alright I’ll think about it.’ But at the same time I’m still thinking, ‘Alright, this is career suicide.’ This is torpedoing me and I’m dead in the water at this point. But at some point when the opportunity arose – All right, wait a minute I can go back and I can do me my way? Let’s do that and that’s what we did. Every single person standing here right now, they’re standing here because of the fact that I got that opportunity to do that, that chance to come out and do what I do my way.”
