Lacey Lane & Kacy Catanzaro ‘Broke Down’ After WWE SmackDown In-Ring Debut: “We Felt Like We Were Set Up In Such A Bad Position”

Lane speaks about the short stint on SmackDown.

Towards the back end of Lacey Lane and Kacy Catanzaro’s time with WWE, the duo were moved to Friday Night SmackDown. The former Kayden Carter and Katana Chance wrestled on two shows for the brand before being released in May 2025.

A look back at that period was recounted by Lane during her appearance on Busted Open. Lacey shared that she and Kacy broke down after their SmackDown in-ring debut. They lost to The Secret Hervice (Alba Fyre & Piper Niven) in six minutes.

Lane feels they were set up to be in a bad position, and after the match, they were just told that things went great.

“I remember the last time, me and Kacy (Catanzaro), we were in London. This was our last SmackDown match before we left and we literally broke down after this match because we felt like we were set up in such a bad position, that it was like our return and our debut on a SmackDown was so horrible and we tried to make something out of nothing, and it’s like, they couldn’t tell us what was wrong and no one said anything. They were just like, ‘Great. You covered this,’ blah, blah, blah. But, there was nothing said to us. We never got anything said to us that, like, hey, you should do this, you should do that, and like I said, pitching new stuff, new ideas, trying to make a grander entrance, trying to make a better character, trying to give more character. More whatever. We just try to give more because we didn’t know what we were lacking. No one ever said anything to us and I think we broke down that day and just sat there — was like, ‘Well, what the actual f*ck?’ We had no clue and we were just so upset in London and it was horrible.”

The duo had not even been made aware that they would be heading to SmackDown. They had been pitching ideas for Raw when they were told about the move.

Lane said she and Kacy were told that there was interest in getting them back into the Women’s Tag Title scene. They were hoping for a fresh start on SmackDown.

“Well, we were excited (to go to SmackDown). We were like, ‘Okay, new people, new teams. New teams are forming’ and first of all, we didn’t even know about this transfer window. We had to ask and then get told… ‘So by the way, you’re gonna be going over to SmackDown.’ I was like ‘Oh, okay.’ Because we’re pitching ideas for Raw, and then, it’s just like, by the way, you’re not gonna be here, so those ideas don’t matter right now. So, we just thought that being on SmackDown, they were gonna prepare us and start to move forward because they kept saying, ‘We wanna get you in the title picture. We wanna do that,’ because we were so excited to wrestle so many people because when Bianca (Belair) and Jade (Cargill) had the titles, I’m like, that dynamic would have been really cool. When Liv (Morgan) and Raquel (Rodriguez) had the titles, we’re like, ‘That dynamic would be really cool.’ It’s giving an opportunity to step up with people at this level, to really show that we could’ve hung, and that’s what we were hoping for. But that kind of thing never happened for us because we just kept wrestling in the same concept and the same people over and over again, and like, not ever moving forward with that so… we had hopes for a new beginning on SmackDown. But, that just never was the case.”

Lane and Catanzaro’s last match for WWE was on the 4/11 Friday Night SmackDown, during which they competed in a gauntlet match for a shot at the Women’s Tag Team Titles.
