Lana Talks About Backstage Heat Over Her Engagement To Rusev

Lana says we shouldn't believe every rumor we read on the internet, but her storyline being dropped did disappoint her.

In late 2015, Lana was involved in a storyline where she betrayed Rusev to pursue a relationship with Dolph Ziggler. During the time she was with Ziggler on television, she got engaged to Rusev and posted pictures on her social media accounts. Soon her storyline ended with Ziggler and she was back with Rusev. This led to speculation by fans that she was being punished for making her marriage public while it conflicted with the on-screen product. Lana told Busted Open that though this was not the case, her storyline was changed.  Ultimately, she chose not fight the change, but she was disappointed.

"They just ended up changing the story so it wasn't necessarily like heat, it was more like… a little bit disappointing because we worked really hard for this story and I was really excited about returning and having a payoff of the return and the tag match (Lana & Ziggler vs. Summer Rae & Rusev). When they decided… when Vince (McMahon) decided to go a different way with it, he wanted to actually tell the story of us being engaged and telling our wedding story. It was like, 'Ok, he's the director' I'm thankful for my opportunities and I'm thankful that I can tell stories for him for a living. So I was just like 'Ok, we're changing gears! Got to make the most of it! Got to be thankful I can do what I love for a living.' So that's what it was more like, it was more like, 'woah, we've been planning this for so long and now it's like a complete change of gears.' But you can't believe everything you read on the internet," said Lana.

Lana and Rusev are currently off of WWE television while Rusev recovers from surgery. Rusev and Lana have not been seen on WWE television since Fastlane on March 5.

Her interview with Busted Open can be heard on SiriusXM and Soundcloud
