The wrestling world lost another legend today as Larry "The Axe" Hennig passed away at the age of 82.
Hennig is the father of "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig and the grandfather of current WWE superstar Curtis Axel. He made his wrestling debut in 1956 and was trained by Verne Gagne. He is best known for his run in the AWA where he teamed with Harley Race and was a four-time AWA World Tag Team Champion. In 1982 he won the NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Championship alongside his son Curt.
Hennig wrestled his last match in 1986, teaming with Scott Hall to defeat Sheik Adnan Al-Kassie & The Mongolian Stomper.
Hennig represented Curt when he was posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007. In 2014, Hennig accompanied Curtis Axel to the ring at the Elimination Chamber event in Minnesota. More recently, Minnesota?s Wicked Wort Brewing Company named a beer after him called "The Axe is Back."
