Layla puts over the current crop of women’s wrestlers.
Over the course of the past few years, women’s wrestling has continued to grow in spades as women’s wrestlers have been treated on the same level as the men in several instances. While there is still a long way to go, Layla feels like one day soon, women’s and men’s wrestlers will be completely treated as equals.
While speaking to Wombreezy in a new interview, Layla was asked about today’s women’s wrestlers, with Layla speaking of how the women are treated as equals today.
“Well, now they’re actually superstars. They’re treated as equals. At some level, I feel like some of them are treated higher than some of the male superstars. So today, it’s a great time to be a female wrestler at this present moment, right? Because they’re giving you time. They’re giving you all the attention. They train you. They train the women amazing. They train the women so well now that if you fail, it’s kind of like on you kind of thing. You know what I mean? There’s no excuse for anyone coming from NXT to the big time, the WWE (main) roster, you should flourish. Then look at the women they’re like look at Rhea (Ripley), like you don’t look at her as she’s a female wrestler, she’s a diva, no she’s a wrestler you know what I mean? She’s like a wrestler. She’s like equal to any of the boys. Like the only woman I can think that ever had that was Chyna but I feel like it’s magnitude even more because it’s not just one female wrestler. Now it’s like everyone can have their moment, they can have their shine. I think they built some huge stars, huge, amazing stars, and in my era, I would have been so honored to be able to be like, you got 20 minutes for a match. I would be like, ‘what?’ So to me, it’s great watching them. Wrestling has evolved, and it’s a great thing. I just feel like the women, eventually, I think, are going to come to the point where it’s like, you can’t even say women. I think it’s just going to be whoever’s the best star to be honest with you they’re bringing the most money.”
In a recent interview with Fightful, Layla spoke about her matches with Aksana. You can read more about that here.
