Leon Slater Opens Up About Being On John Cena’s Final Match Card, Says Opportunity Is Surreal Considering He’s A TNA Talent

The X Division Champion weighs in.
As a part of the match card at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13th, which will feature John Cena’s retirement bout, there is going to be a WWE World Tag Team Title match.
The duo of A.J. Styles and Dragon Lee is set to defend their belts against NXT’s Je’Von Evans and TNA X Division Champion Leon Slater. Slater spoke about the opportunity while on The A2theK Wrestling Show. He said he’s aware of how big the opportunity is and there being limited spots on the card. Slater added that the opportunity is even more surreal considering he’s signed to TNA.
“It’s wild, and it’s another one of these things that almost feels like it’s just perfectly slotted into place for me, you know? But the fact that it’s not just any Saturday Night’s Main Event but it’s John Cena’s last ever, final appearance as an in-ring competitor is absolutely crazy and obviously, there’s very limited spots on that card, and the fact that I don’t even work for WWE. I’m still a TNA talent, and I’m on a main roster PLE, one of the biggest is just, I think, a testament to the wild year that I’ve had and of course, it’s with A.J. Styles as well to make it even crazier, and Dragon Lee of course for the tag belts, I think.
And it’s even more surreal that I’m obviously still with TNA. You would think that those spots would be reserved for main roster talent only, and the fact that I’ve come in as sort of an outsider and I’ve managed to get myself a spot on that card is just insane.”
Slater was in action at the NXT Deadline Premium Live Event. He competed in the men’s Iron Survivor Challenge match and will be featured on the 12/16 NXT on The CW in a four-way to determine the next challenger to the NXT Championship.
