Leyla Hirsch Issues Statement On The Ongoing Russia-Ukraine War

Leyla Hirsch has issued a statement on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

On Thursday, February 24, Russian forces invaded Ukraine, and in the two weeks since then, hundreds have died, millions have fled the country, cities have come under heavy fire, and numerous sanctions have been placed on Russia.

Hirsch, who competes for All Elite Wrestling, was born in Russia but moved to the USA at the age of 8. She took to Twitter today to address the situation and people's misinformed belief that she would support Russia's actions. She said the following:

I want to make something very clear. I stand with Ukraine one hundred percent and my heart breaks for its citizens who are suffering at the hands of Vladimir Putin. I was born in Russia. I came to the US at eight years of age and became an American citizen. I cannot change my heritage any more than any other citizen can change theirs. The mere fact that I was born in Russia does not mean that I support this brutal dictator. Everyone who would even suggest such a thing is simply wrong, plain and simple.

Hirsch competed on the most recent episode of AEW Dynamite, losing to Thunder Rosa in a Women's World Championship Eliminator Match.
