Lio Rush Discusses Why He's Pursuing A Career In WWE And Music

Lio Rush is a dual-threat.

During his time on the sidelines following WrestleMania, Lio Rush remained active in the entertainment business, releasing a couple of rap songs through his YouTube channel. Appearing on The Sit Down, Lio discussed why he turned to music while also being a WWE superstar.

"I'm trying to push the message out there that it's okay to have more than one goal and dream. That you can accomplish more than one thing. I never try to put a ceiling on what I can and can't do. I've always been the kind of person who, as soon as I accomplish one thing, I want to move on to the next. I want to keep building my resume," he said.

Rush was kept at home from WWE due to reported attitude issues. He returned to WWE television on the Sept. 18 episode of NXT, defeating Oney Lorcan to become the number one contender to the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. While Lio has a second career as a rapper, his WWE gimmick doesn't see him spitting bars on television. Instead, Lio is most known for his over the top personality and exceptional high-flying ability in the ring.

"I always had that fear, getting into it at first," Lio answered when asked about the stereotypical gimmicks of black wrestlers. "I feel like I kind of broke that stereotype because of the things that I was doing, showing that I'm not your stereotypical black wrestler who is flipping, flopping, and dancing around."
