Lio Rush's AEW character wasn't his idea.
Throughout his second stint with AEW, which began in September 2021, Lio Rush was featured frequently on television teaming with Dante Martin. He would make his last appearance for the promotion in December before officially becoming a free agent on February 14.
Speaking with Joey Karni of The Angle Podcast, Lio spoke about his time with AEW, admitting that the character he portrayed on television was not one he would have chosen for himself. Compounding matters was the fact that he was not given many pointers in regards to where to take the character.
“It was a character or gimmick thrown on me that I would’ve never chosen myself and I had to work with that. I had to adapt and kind of figure out where I wanted the character to go because there weren’t a lot of pointers," Rush said.
During another recent interview, Rush commented that he doesn't believe the door to AEW is closed and that there is no bad blood between him and the promotion. Click here to read more.
