The individual traveled from Canada to Florida.
Louise Thomas of The Independent published a story with details (via an FBI probable cause affidavit) about a Canadian pro wrestling fan, Shawn Chan, who is facing federal charges after showing up at the home of WWE's Liv Morgan. He attempted to break in and left a note describing it as a 'friendly visit.'
The 41-year-old Scarborough, Ontario resident got a passport in May, and on that same day, he flew to Orlando, Florida.
The affidavit does not list the victim by name, as is routine in federal court filings, but it includes dates and details that line up with previous reporting about Chan's arrest on June 3rd in Orange County, Florida, on state charges connected to Liv Morgan.
As of this writing, Chan does not have an attorney and was unable to be contacted for a comment.
The affidavit notes that Chan boarded a flight from Canada to Orlando on May 26th and told customs that he would be staying at the WWE Performance Center.
After landing in Orlando, Chan traveled two hours to Morgan's home. Surveillance footage from May 31st showed Chan arriving at the home at 5:20 PM. He was wearing a black shirt, tan shorts, a baseball cap, and carrying a large backpack.
He approached the home through the yard and walked around the property twice. The affidavit notes that he walked up to the front door and began checking underneath the mat, presumably for a spare key. Chan then swiped the locking mechanism on the door several times and attempted to open the door.
He was not able to get inside. Chan then picked up a long air rifle pellet gun that was on the porch wall, which was there before his arrival. It was a Sig Sauer MCX .177 air rifle that is capable of firing metal pellets at 600 feet per second. Chan sat on the front porch with the pellet gun before standing back up and approaching the front door.
He waited around for more than two hours. Chan proceeded to leave a note near some packages that had been delivered to Morgan's home. He mentioned in the note that he was wronged by members of an online gaming community and added the following:
I came here to pay just a friendly visit, nothing more… Yea, I just wanted to let you know that I was here.
The note also included Chan's home address and phone number.
On June 3rd, he showed up at the WWE Performance Center. Security personnel recognized him from the aforementioned surveillance footage and notified deputies. Chan was then arrested.
When his belongings were being searched, officers found two bottles of liquid that had "Chinese writing on them." Chan said they were medicines, one of which was to treat injuries such as bleeding.
Morgan later told officers that she was out of town when Chan showed up at her property, and she did not know him. The affidavit notes:
She expressed concern that her home address was known to the public and that two other individuals had shown up to her residence without invitation or notice. The victim explained she does not bring fan mail into the house because of the number of concerning messages she receives.
Chan was indicted on June 25th and is currently detained in the Pasco County Detention Center. He'll be appearing in federal court on July 18th for arraignment on one count of interstate domestic violence. He is facing up to five years in prison.
