Wrestling Legend Dick "The Destroyer" Beyer Passes Away At Age 88

Fightful is sad to report that Dick "The Destroyer" Beyer passed away at age 88.

The news was announced by Dick's son, Kurt, on Facebook. "It is with a very heavy heart to let you know that Dad -- aka The Destroyer, aka Doctor X, aka Dick Beyer, aka Coach -- passed away shortly past Noon today. He was in bed at home, and was surrounded by all of his children and wife as he slipped peacefully away. I will have more to share later, but wanted you to hear this sad news from me first. Thoughts and prayers are most welcome at this time. Peace."

Beyer made his professional wrestling debut in 1955 under the NWA banner. He would go on to wrestle for WWA, AWA (as Dr. X), and AJPW. Beyer was a three-time WWA World Heavyweight Champion, three-time WWA World Tag Team Champion, International Heavyweight Champion, and NWA World Tag Team Champion during his career. He last wrestled in July 1993 for All Japan Pro Wrestling. He was one of the first foreign wrestlers to become popular in Japan.

Fightful would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of The Destroyer.
