WWE called Luke Harper at a crucial moment in his life.

Before he was in the Wyatt Family in NXT, Luke Harper was making his living wrestling around the world. In an interview with his hometown publication the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, he revealed his travel took away from his family time. He told the interviewer about his family he lives with near Rochester, New York.

“I have two dogs, five cats, four chickens, a 5-year-old, and a beautiful wife,” said Harper.

When his wife was pregnant with their five-year-old, Harper had made the decision to step back from wrestling and focus on spending time with his family. He said he had come back from a tour in Japan with the decision already made, but he had not planned for a specific phone call.

"I said to (my wife), ‘This is it. I’m done. I can’t be away from you, we just have to figure something out.I was just going to wrestle locally and I come back from the tour, make the decision, everything’s good, then WWE calls and says ‘Hey, we want you to come try out.’ So, literally, I was as far out as I’ve ever been in my life away from pro wrestling, and they instantly pulled me back in and it was back to it,” said Harper.

He was thirty-two years old and eight years into his wrestling career when he had the tryout. He said he was glad to have eight years laying down his "foundation." Also in the interview, Harper gave details about his life in Rochester, New York growing up, wrestling on the independents while he worked at a school, and some other people spoke about Harper on a personal level.

Harper was last seen in a match on a WWE broadcast at WWE Backlash where he defeated Erick Rowan. This Tuesday, Smackdown is live from his hometown of Rochester, New York.
