Marc Mero: Arn Anderson Wanted Me To Hit Him With A Shoot Punch Because ‘My Working Punch Was Killing Him’
At the end of 1994 and into 1995, Marc Mero (Johnny B Badd) worked a program with Arn Anderson as the two feuded over the WCW Television Championship.
At WCW Uncensored 1995, they faced in a Boxer vs. Wrestler match where Mero wore boxing gloves and had to win by knockout while Anderson could win by pinfall.
Speaking to Jeremy Lambert & SP3 on Fightful’s In The Weeds, Mero reflected on working with Anderson.
“All the credit to Arn Anderson. Everyone that works with him knows how great he is, but I don’t think he ever got the due he really deserves as one of the best. I have gloves on, he’s wrestling, and we have to come up with a concept that looks halfway decent. We somehow made it work. He got the bucket put over his head, I hit him with the Tutti Fruiti, and got the win. If you watch it back the way his head spins around with the bucket on is so funny. He took some really good shots. When I first got to work with Arn, they put me on the road with him because I’m green. I signed a contract and only had three or four matches in my whole life. I was so green. They put me on the road with Arn to teach me. He’s one of the funniest guys in the locker room and had a sense of humor that is the best because he’s a straight man who would not laugh at his own joke. He always had funny lines about me. Nick Patrick was our referee, and when he would separate us, he would tell the next spot from the other wrestler. He said, ‘Arn told me to tell you to punch him in the face as hard as you can.’ I thought, ‘Why would he say that? What do you mean?’ ‘He told me to tell you that your working punch is killing him.’” Mero said with a laugh.
Mero would win the Boxer vs. Wrestler match.
