Maria Kanellis Recounts Fear Of Paralysis After Sunset Flip Attempt During Her Early Days Of Wrestling Training

Maria Kanellis tells a scary story about when she started trying out in pro wrestling.

Maria Kanellis entered the world of WWE through the WWE Divas Search. As such, she was never known for her wrestling ability. Maria has never shied away from this, however, noting that there are many different places for women in the world of wrestling and at several different points in their career being a great backstage interviewer, manager, and more.

Now, in a new interview with Metro in the UK, Maria tells a scary story about thinking she was paralyzed following a sunset flip attempt on Mickie James during one of her first times inside the squared circle.

"I was purple after I was done! From my shoulder down my back, down my legs, was purple because of hitting the ropes and taking the bumps, and also doing the squats. Lance [Storm] was training that week. I was there, Mickie was there, Angelina Love was there, I think Melina – and it was a tryout. Michelle McCool, oh my God. She shined above all of us Diva girls because she’s so athletic!”

She continued, “So yeah, I was purple. I landed on my chin. I went to do a sunset flip, went and I caught my chest on Mickie and I landed right on my chin. So, my butt was hanging in the air and I was balanced on my chin and my chest. I thought I was paralyzed, it was awful! As a fan, you don’t know until you know. It’s intense.”

Now, Maria is focusing her intensity on building a better women's division for the future, specifically in Ring of Honor wrestling. Learn more about what she has to say about the current Ring of Honor Women's Champion, Rok-C, here.
