Maria Kanellis recalled how women’s wrestling has changed since she made her debut in the industry.

Beginning her pro wrestling career in the mid 2000s, Maria would begin her career with WWE and would later jump around promotions, working in NJPW, ROH, IMPACT, AEW and more.

While speaking to Wrestling Life Online, Maria Kanellis was asked about the biggest differences between when she started her wrestling career and today, with Maria pointing to the changes for women’s wrestlers who have children.

“When I first started, if you had a kid, you were quiet about it. You didn’t talk about it. You didn’t talk about your children and bless the women that did because that schedule way back when was so much harder than what I left wrestling and You used to be on the road four or five days a week, and at the time there was no FaceTime. So you were leaving your baby at home. You didn’t have the opportunities that you do now, as far as FaceTime and being able to connect on the phone. A lot of times, if you went internationally, you didn’t talk to anybody back home. There was no way. So the women that were able to have children back then and kept it quiet, they had to be strong women.”

Maria gave birth to her third child with fellow pro wrestler Mike Bennett. You can read more about that here.
