Maria Kanellis-Bennett says she wants Women's Wrestling Army to air on HonorClub.
In 2021, Kanellis-Bennett and Bobby Cruise earned plenty of praise for their work in rebuilding Ring of Honor's women's division; the company held the Quest for Gold tournament for the ROH Women's World Championship, which was ultimately won by Rok-C. ROH went on hiatus after ROH Final Battle 2021, but Kanellis-Bennett kept the momentum going by launching Women's Wrestling Army in 2022. The all-women's promotion has held several tapings, and the show airs on Pro Wrestling TV.
In an interview with Bill Pritchard of WrestleZone, Kanellis discussed her experience with WWA up to this point. She noted that there's more than enough talent, but funding is seemingly the main obstacle the company currently faces. Kanellis-Bennett then expressed that they're trying to figure out how to move forward. She made it clear that HonorClub, the home of Ring of Honor, is her ideal place for the company's content, given the crossover between the two, particularly with their style of wrestling.
“My ideal place to have it is on HonorClub, and that’s because I feel like there’s so much crossover between [Ring Of Honor and Women’s Wrestling Army]. It’s also the same style of wrestling. When we started this, we didn’t want it to be too fluffy. We wanted it to be a little bit fluffy of course, but we wanted to be able to showcase every style, and we wanted to make an impact with it. So the style of wrestling we have is a lot of what Ring of Honor is already doing. So for us, the crossover is obvious," Kanellis-Bennett said.
When asked whether she has had talks with ROH owner Tony Khan about this possibility, Kanellis-Bennett stated that they were in the early stages, and bandwidth is a factor in the conversation, as Khan is a very busy man. She made it clear that they won't know whether the move to HonorClub can happen for WWA, but she also noted that Khan has been open, and he sees the potential.
“We’ve had talks. We’re in the early stages, and I think that it’s all about bandwidth. Tony Khan is a very busy man, and whether or not that can happen, we don’t know. But we’re definitely investigating that, and Tony’s super open. He’s one of the best bosses I’ve ever had when it comes to open communication. So we’re talking about it. He definitely sees the potential, and I definitely see the potential for us being placed on HonorClub," Kanellis-Bennett said.
Kanellis-Bennett also noted that she has talked to FITE, Twitch, and other networks including Bravo, NBC, and Discovery, as she has been exploring avenues that go beyond the typical homes for wrestling-based content.
ROH relaunched HonorClub at the end of 2022 ahead of the return of ROH's weekly TV show, which premiered in March.
For now, Women's Wrestling Army continues to air Wednesdays on Pro Wrestling TV.
