Mark Henry: I Told WWE Before I Left That I'm Competitive And I Want To Prove My Worth

Mark Henry remains competitive as he enters a new chapter of his career in All Elite Wrestling.

AEW is only the second home of Mark Henry in the world of professional wrestling despite the fact that he has been in the industry for 25 years. For the majority of his career, he was employed by WWE and if he did work elsewhere, it was for one of WWE's developmental territories.

Now, after joining AEW at Double or Nothing 2021, Mark Henry reveals on the AEW Unrestricted podcast that before he left WWE, he warned those he spoke to that he wanted to do more in the industry, and if they wouldn't give him the opportunity he would look elsewhere and take his competitive nature and desire to be the best with him wherever he went.

“I alluded to the fact that, where I was working before that, you know, for what I was doing, it was not enough for me, that I was going to have to look for work elsewhere. I was told, you know, ‘I mean, that's, that's what you gotta do. You gotta look out for your family. I understand.’ I said, ‘But you know I'm competitive and I want to win and prove to you and everybody else that my efforts don't go unnoticed. I didn't become a world champion in three different sports by accident and a national champion four times in another sport.’”

Henry continued, “So I've been pretty busy and I've had a lot of success and it's about [being the] product [of] but hard work and exposure. So that's what I feel like my biggest gift is going to be to the talent is I paid attention and I'm exposed to a lot of things in a bunch of different areas and if you just, you know, humble yourself a little bit and not kill the messenger, you'll come away from it a better person.”

Elsewhere on the same podcast, Mark Henry discussed his desire to see WNBA player Liz Cambage try her hand at professional wrestling. Learn more here.
