Mark Henry Says He’ll Have His Final Match Under The AEW Banner, Would Like It To Happen In Texas

Mark Henry is definitely going to have his final match with AEW but says his immediate focus is rivaling names like Jim Ross and Michael Cole as one of the best commentators out there.

Mark Henry has dated several times over the past year that he was getting himself in shape for his final match. The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion spent his entire wrestling career in WWE or projects affiliated with WWE as he signed with the company in 1996 and never looked back.

At AEW Double or Nothing 2021, it was announced that Mark Henry was making the jump to AEW and would be a color commentator on AEW Rampage, the new show coming to the TNT Network on August 13.

Speaking on the Battleground Podcast, Henry comfortably stated that he would have his final match under the AEW banner but in the interim, while he is still getting himself in shape and nursing old injuries, he is focused on being the best commentator he can be.

Well, it’s definitely gonna happen in AEW,” Henry said of his final match. “It's not going to be anytime soon, I think. I want to be 100%. I am still nursing injuries from 4 years ago. The wrestling business is a tough business, it's not meant for everybody. Being in my home state, it would be cool to be able to do that, but not at this current time.”

He continued, “I will be on a new show called Rampage. We're going to be on Fridays, I'm sure you've seen the commercials. I want to be one of the best commentators. I want to compete with Jim Ross, I want to compete with my Coco, I want to compete with Pat McAfee, and we're going to have a good time doing it. I think fans are going to come away from it seeing Mark Henry a little differently.”

Rampage will debut on Friday, August 13 at 10 p.m. eastern time on the TNT Network, immediately following WWE’s airing of Friday Night SmackDown on FOX.
