Marty Scurll Address Future On NWA Powerrr, Wants To Keep The People Guessing

Marty Scurll made a surprise appearance at NWA Into The Fire on Saturday, showing up to confront NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis.

Much has been made over the future of Scurll, whose contract with ROH reportedly expired in November. Scurll did work ROH Final Battle on Dec. 13 and, one night after his NWA appearance, was at ROH Final Battle Fallout on Dec. 15.

On Tuesday's NWA Powerrr, Scurll sat down with Stu Bennett to address his future.

"I want to be unique and standout. I want to keep the people guessing. Everyone seems to think, 'he's going to this company, he's going there, is he doing this, is he doing that.' Okay, let's throw a spanner in the works. What if, I turned up to the NWA? What if I turned up here? What if I turned up there? Truth is, at the first opportunity I got, I turned up at NWA Into The Fire because the NWA, I got a taste of it at the Crockett Cup this year. It really ignited my passion with professional wrestling. I really love the idea of making a title match important. Back when we were kids, the World Heavyweight Title is the most important thing," stated Scurll. "Always the main event. Now, I don't know what happened. There's loads of World Heavyweight Titles. It's hard to follow. I had the big match with Nick Aldis and it really sparked my passion back in professional wrestling. Not that I ever lost it, but I love the honor, tradition and legacy (of NWA). My first opportunity to do anything else, 'Okay, let's just walk up to the NWA.' I like to keep people guessing. I don't like anyone to assume that they know what I'm doing. Maybe I don't even know what I'm doing. That's the thing with pro wrestling that makes it so exciting; not knowing what's going on. No one knew about [my appearance at NWA Into The Fire]. Most of the guys in the back, actually all the guys in the back didn't know I was going to be here. They found it exciting. I've got to do different things to stand out and keep it interesting."

Scurll challenged Aldis for the NWA World Heavyweight Title in April at NWA Crockett Cup. It was the second time that month Scurll had been in a World Title bout -- he competed in a triple threat ladder match for the ROH World Title at ROH/NJPW G1 Supercard -- and the second time that month he failed to win a World Title.

"It's been a thing that has hung over my head for a long time. After everything I've done in professional wrestling and the waves I've made, I've never been World Champion. I can't think of a better place to come and become the real Worlds Champion in the NWA," he said.

It has not been reported if Scurll has signed a contract with any promotion. Along with continued appearances for ROH and showing up in the NWA, Scurll's name remains tied to AEW as Being The Elite has teased Marty re-joining his friends in the promotion.

Cody Rhodes recently commented on Marty's status, saying he is "testing the waters." You can view his full comments by clicking here.
