Matt Cardona Provides Update After Undergoing Surgery For Torn Triceps: “I’ll Be Back Faster Than The Surgeon Said”

Matt Cardona’s sights are still set on becoming WWE Champion.

Matt Cardona made the announcement that he tore his triceps while competing in a non-televised match.

He took to his Instagram and shared the details of how the injury happened. He mentioned that he underwent surgery on August 25th. He brought up his impromptu match against GUNTHER on the August 14th SmackDown, during which they competed in non-wrestling attire. Cardona said he did not have his elbow pads on and took powerbombs inside the ring and around the ringside area.

His elbow was bothering him afterward, but he did not think too much of it. He added that the following week, while he was in the gym, his elbow was giving him some trouble, but he once again did not give it too much thought.

Cardona was wrestling Kit Wilson in a non-televised bout, and within the first minute, the injury happened. He delivered a dropkick off the ropes and landed on his elbow as he always does, but this time he felt a pop. Cardona got an MRI, and it was confirmed that his triceps were torn off the bone and off the elbow. He is not sure if it’s connected to the GUNTHER match and said maybe he’s just bringing it up to rationalize the situation he’s in.

He stated that it sucks getting injured now because he has not been doing much in WWE. He added that he’s still trying to figure out who Matt Cardona is in the company, and he’s not getting any younger.

“There is no good time to get injured. When I got injured on the indies, I was ‘The Indy God,’ right? I had all these titles, I was killing it. Getting hurt was a momentum killer, a buzz killer, and I was trying so hard to get back to WWE, so that sucked when I got hurt then. But now, I think it sucks even more because let’s be honest, these past seven months, I haven’t been doing much, and I’ve been optimistic that something is gonna change and it did a couple weeks ago with the GUNTHER opportunity…” Cardona continued, “There’s no dead weight on the roster so I knew it would be an uphill battle. But yeah, it just sucks getting hurt now when I’m still figuring out who Matt Cardona is in WWE… I’m not getting any younger, right?” Cardona laughed. “I’m 41, which, you know, I don’t think is that old. I feel like I’m in the best shape of my career besides this injury. The two World Champions are my age or older. But I’m closer to the end than I am to the beginning. So, five months, six months, three months off, at this point in my career, that’s a long f*cking time. So it is certainly not a good time to get injured.”

As it relates to his return, Cardona said:

“I worked too damn hard to come back to have this injury ruin it, so, I’ll be back, faster than the surgeon said, and I’m coming back to be the WWE Champion or I’m gonna die trying.”
