Matt Hardy: Christian Cage's TNA Run Showed That He Could Be A Top Guy And Put The Company On His Back

Matt Hardy says Christian Cage proved himself in TNA.

Christian Cage had a successful run in WWE in the early years of his career, as he was memorably paired up with Edge. He also had a prominent run with Chris Jericho, but he ultimately left the company in 2005. Cage then signed with TNA and cemented himself as a world champion there; he won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship twice. Cage then returned to WWE and remained there for several years before he was forced to retire due to injury. Cage later came out of retirement in 2021, and he went on to sign with AEW.

Logan Paul Claims He's Retired

Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Matt Hardy discussed Christian Cage's career. In one highlight, he looked back on Cage going to TNA in 2005.

“It just put equity into his persona and showed that just because he wasn’t under the employment of Vince McMahon, that he could go somewhere else and he could be a top guy, he could be a star, he could put the promotion on his back and he could hold his own. He carried the promotion as champion and that’s what he did, I think that was his whole mission, that was his whole game plan whenever he went to TNA. You know, I was very very close to ending up in TNA right before he went and it’s funny, I think we both had that same mindsets I know too he said that ultimately his goal was he wanted to come back to WWE and he hoped that would, you know, once he optimized his equity that it would allow him to do it in the WWE as well," Hardy said.

Hardy also called Christian Cage one of the elite heels in the wrestling business. Check out his comments here.
