Matt Hardy Describes Which Aspect Of His 2009 Feud With Jeff Hardy That Neither Of Them Liked

There was at least one aspect of his 2009 feud with his brother Jeff that Matt Hardy was not a fan of.

At the 2009 Royal Rumble, Matt Hardy came to the ring during Jeff Hardy's match against Edge and shocked the WWE Universe when he hit his brother over the head with a steel chair. The next week on SmackDown, Matt kicked off their feud, saying that he no longer considered Jeff his partner or brother. Matt would also take credit for all of the unfortunate events that had happened in Jeff's personal life the year prior, claiming to have done it to prove that he was no longer living in his brother's shadow.

During the most recent episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the AEW star explained that he and Jeff wanted to treat the angle seriously, but both thought the idea of him burning Jeff's house down was a step too far.

"The whole thing of burning Jeff's house down. We never liked that. We’d never do a callback to that. But I remember thinking during that angle, I was like, me being jealous of my brother, who's historically more popular than me? Sure, I can see that. Or, if I had his fireworks go off or do things to embarrass him. But like, burn his house down? I think that might be a little jumping the shark because we're trying to play this angle as serious. You know, it'd be different if it [had been] a broken universe angle," Matt said.

Matt and Jeff recently reunited in AEW when Jeff made his debut for the promotion on March 9. They're currently feuding with the Andrade Family Office.

Elsewhere during the podcast, Matt said that “Big Money Matt” and “Big Nickel Nero” paid for everything that ever occurred at the Hardy compound that aired on IMPACT Wrestling television. Click here to learn more.
