Matt Hardy: I Think MJF Is Going To Be The Face Of AEW For A Long Time To Come

Matt Hardy discusses MJF's crowning moment at AEW Full Gear.

MJF has been featured in AEW since it launched in 2019, and he has gradually become one of the company's top stars. This climb to the top ramped up when he returned to the promotion after a brief absence at AEW All Out 2022 and won the Casino Ladder Match. Since then, he has cemented his status as a major player, and he defeated Jon Moxley (thanks to a key assist from William Regal) to win the AEW World Championship at AEW Full Gear. Meanwhile, Hardy has been in the business for three decades, and he is a former TNA World Heavyweight Champion. He signed with AEW in 2020, and he remains an established member of the AEW roster.

Steve Maclin Reflects On His Match With PCO At IMPACT Under Siege

Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Matt shared his thoughts on MJF's title win and stated that he's excited for his run with the gold. Hardy emphasized that he's a fan of MJF, and he's curious to see how his reign goes. He stated that he thinks MJF is the most homegrown talent on the AEW roster, and he believes the new champion will be the face of the company for a long time.

“It was an interesting move, for sure, but it is very on brand for the MJF character, I think. I’m really excited about MJF’s run as champion. I’m a big fan of Maxwell Jacob Friedman. So it’s gonna be really interesting to see how the people gravitate towards him as champion, and considering he is gonna be the centerpiece of the promotion, it’s gonna be really interesting to see how it does number-wise, from ratings and buy rates and whatever else. But I feel like more than anyone, MJF is the most home-grown AEW talent, even more than Hangman Page because I feel like Hangman Page was the first real homegrown talent that actually won the title, but he also had a big run in Ring of Honor, and he worked in Japan. This is really MJF’s first run on top, and now he is representing AEW as the champ, and I think it’s a good move. I’m all for it, and I truly believe, deep in my heart, I think MJF is gonna be the face of AEW for a long time to come," Hardy said.

In a recent interview, MJF described how people like him because he's authentic. Check out his comments here.

MJF recently called Conor McGregor a "roided up leprechaun". More information is available here.
