Matt Hardy: Jay Briscoe Came Off To Me As The Coolest Badass Alive, His Promos Were On The Money

Matt Hardy discusses the realism that Jay Briscoe brought to pro wrestling.

The world of professional wrestling is still reeling from the tragic and sudden loss of Jay Briscoe, which occurred back on January 17, 2023. Briscoe, who was one half of the Ring Of Honor Tag Team Champions with his brother Mark, passed away after being involved in a head on collision. Jay's two daughters, Gracie & Jayleigh, were also injured in the accident.

Since the news broke, there has been a massive outpour of love and support for Jay's friends, family, and fans across the world of social media. On Wednesday's episode of AEW Dynamite, many wrestlers paid tribute to Jay during their matches and/or entrances.

On the most recent episode of his Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy podcast, Hardy praised both of the Briscoe brothers for the manner in which they cut promos, saying that it brought legitimacy to their characters.

“I mean, they were very real. When you heard these guys speak, I don’t think it came off like a wrestling promo, it came off like two cats that wanted to whip your ass. I think they were so believable, so credible, especially Jay. When he’d get in there and he’d start spitting shit and do his promos and he’d be locked in and he has the eyes in the camera getting close… so good man. The coolest badass alive is how Jay Briscoe came off to me as a character. His promos were just on the money. It sounded like this guy was legitimately gonna try to rip this guy apart when he gets in the ring. He was so believable and so credible.”

Earlier on in the podcast, Hardy paid tribute to Briscoe, noting that he was a amazing human being, a great father, and a very close friend to him. To learn more, click here.
