Matt Hardy Says Vince McMahon Was Concerned Over WWE Backlash 2009 Finish In 'I Quit' Match With Jeff Hardy

Matt Hardy says Vince McMahon was concerned about the finish of his match with Jeff Hardy at WWE Backlash 2009.

Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy faced off in a WrestleMania rematch at Backlash 2009. That match happened to be an "I Quit" encounter, and the match ended when Jeff tied his brother to a table, and Matt surrendered just as he was about to jump off onto him. Jeff, of course, dived anyway, and Matt broke his wrist.

In an interview with Robbie Fox on My Mom's Basement, Matt Hardy revealed that Vince McMahon was apprehensive about the spot going into the match, and in the end, his concerns were validated.

"I didn't think about it necessarily in the moment. I'll be honest. Vince was very concerned about it. Vince didn't think we should do it. Thought it could be dangerous. I said, 'I think it'll be okay. I think it'll be alright.'

"I don't even think I had to [go back and tell Vince he was right]. I think I could just tell by his face afterwards, but it's one of those things, you know? It's wrestling, it's a risky business. It was a calculated risk, and on that day, the calculation did not pay off. "
