Matt Hardy Thinks Tony Khan Reshuffled The Deck Well With AEW Dynamite, Praises Hangman Page

Plans had to change on Wednesday's AEW Dynamite as the AEW World and Trios Championships were vacated following CM Punk and The Elite (Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks) getting into an altercation after the AEW All Out media scrum.

Nothing has publicly been said about the altercation and Tony Khan did not get into the reasons as to why the titles were vacated on Dynamite. New Trios Champions were crowned shortly after the announcement with Death Triangle (PAC, Rey Fenix, & Penta El Zero Miedo) defeating Best Friends (Chuckie T, Orange Cassidy, & Trent).

A new AEW World Champion will be crowned at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam with the finals of the Tournament of Champions.

Speaking on his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt gave comments on the situation and changes.

"It certainly took people by surprise," Hardy said of what happened at AEW All Out with the press conference and fallout, "especially because we did a complete refresh on the Dynamite that followed because we reset our champions. I thought Tony Khan did a good job reshuffling the deck and giving a great Dynamite. It's going to be interesting to see what the ratings are going to be. I imagine, because there was so much buzz on AEW all week, and buzz is buzz. it makes a lot of people want to tune into AEW. I'm very curious as to what the numbers are. Fortunately, it was a great show too."

AEW Dynamite drew 1,035,000 viewers, up from the 1,020,000 viewers the show drew the prior Wednesday. The show posted a 0.38 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic, which was up from the 0.35 demographic rating from the prior week.

Dynamite was headlined by Daniel Garcia winning the ROH Pure Title against Wheeler Yuta in his hometown of Buffalo. Hardy compared Garcia to Dean Malenko in his style.

He also had praise from Hangman Page, who lost to Bryan Danielson in the Tournament of Champions.

"He's great. I can't say enough good things about him. On top of just being great as a professional wrestler, the hybrid style that he does, some old school, some new school, he's just a great human being," said Hardy about Hangman.

Hangman, along with The Elite and Colt Cabana, were called out by Punk during his media scrum after AEW All Out.

Hardy hasn't been regularly featured on Dynamite since his brother Jeff Hardy was arrested in June. Before AEW All Out, Matt said we are close to learning about Jeff's future.
