Matt Jackson Reflects On The 15 Year Anniversary Of The Young Bucks’ TNA Release

Matt Jackson looks back on the 15 year anniversary of he and his brother Nick being granted their release from TNA and betting on themselves.

The Young Bucks are one of the most polarizing tag teams of all time, having been a staple of the independent wrestling scene up until the birth of AEW in 2019. The pair had also been successful in Japan, and also had a stint in TNA as ‘Generation Me’ before betting on themselves in 2011 and requesting their release.

While speaking to Undisputed in a new interview, Matt Jackson reflected on it being 15 years since he and his brother requested their releases from TNA, recalling how he and Nick were feeling at the time, noting that they were ‘backed up against a wall.’

“I can’t believe it’s already been 15 years,” said Jackson. “That was the very first scenario where we decided to bet on ourselves, and luckily by the grace of God, it worked out for us. My wife was very pregnant with our first child, and we were dead broke. Nick and I were on a bad contract where we’d only get paid if we wrestled, and we were at home being iced. We were starved and backed up against a wall. Call it blind confidence, or young arrogance, we just saw something in ourselves that they did not, and we had the courage to make a change. I don’t think anyone, including ourselves, could’ve ever imagined what the next 15 years would look like though. At the time I would’ve just been happy to be able to pay rent. Now I look at everything we’ve helped build, and it’s just insane. We’re blessed men and have had careers we’re obviously very proud of.”
