Speaking to Jeremy Lambert & SP3 on Fightful's In The Weeds, Mako previewed his bout against Moriarty.

"I found out a week or two ago. I got booked for the DEAN~!!! show a couple weeks before that and didn't really know who the opponent would be. Lee was tossed around at the ROH show I was at," he said.

Speaking about Lee, Mako said, "When I first started on the scene, I was really trying to catch up to three guys: Wheeler Yuta, Lee Moriarty, and Daniel Garcia. The Killers. I was trying to catch up to these guys. I'm my own person and everybody is on their own path. I always refer to Lee as the one that got away because we never got to wrestle before he got signed. I wrestled Yuta like four times, I wrestled Daniel once. Me and Lee just never got in there. It was always kicked around. He was IWTV Champion for a bit and Yuta beat him, that's when I started feuding with Yuta and then they all got gobbled up by Tony. I'm very much looking forward to this and it's Pure Rules, which is great. I joke about The Killers things, but they all deserve the moniker, even though I feel like the apex predator. Me and him match up with similar styles that we utilize a lot of submissions and strikes. Lee is his own beast. He's a wizard in there. Lee is probably a better pure wrestler than me, but I'm a better fighter. I'm more aggressive and better at striking. I don't know what's going down, but could you imagine if the ROH Pure Title changed hands on an independent show? Wouldn't that be something?"
