Matt Riddle Files Notice Of Voluntary Dismissal Of Restraining Order In Sexual Assault Case

An update in the Matt Riddle/Candy Cartwright case.

As reported by David Bixenspan of Babyface v. Heel, Riddle and his lawyer Daniel J. Rose had requested to get a restraining order against Cartwright. Cartwright had accused Riddle of sexually assaulting her years ago. Riddle and Rose had filed a complaint, but the two later requested a voluntary dismissal, just over 36 hours before a hearing was set to begin.

According to court records in Riddle's petition (of which Riddle is regarded as the "Petitioner"), Riddle accused Cartwright of several things including “committed stalking," “previously threatened, harassed, stalked, cyberstalked, or physically abused the Petitioner," "threatened to harm Petitioner or family members or individuals closely associated with Petitioner" and more. Cartwright's lawyer Allison Lovelady had tried to dismiss the petition, refuting many of the claims Riddle made against Cartwright with the aforementioned hearing was for the motion to dismiss it.

Among the other things that Riddle and his lawyer had claimed was Cartwright tweeting out the phone number of Lisa Riddle, Matt's wife, and their home address, which Lovelady denied. Lovelady says the tweet in question "is publicly available and demonstrates that Respondent [Cartwright] redacted Petitioner’s wife’s phone number” and “also demonstrates that Respondent never publicized Petitioner’s address.” The article stated that "Lovelady also attached a sworn declaration from her associate, James Slater, attesting to the authenticity of various things that [Cartwright] actually tweeted, including the redacted screenshot of the texts from Lisa Riddle."

Months ago, Cartwright accused Riddle of sexually assaulting her years ago. Cartwright claimed, "Back in May of 2018 I was riding with Matt Riddle and a few other wrestlers. During the van ride, when the 3 other wrestlers had fallen asleep, Matt asked me to 'hop on his dick.' When I refused (although we had previously been together I was incredibly uncomfortable in that setting ) When I said no, he grabbed me by my throat, choked me and said “what if I just made you?” I ended up giving him oral sex (praying someone wouldn’t wake up) to get out of having intercourse with him. It was incredibly humiliating. It is never ok to put your hands on a woman, it’s also not ok to not listen when she says no."

Since that allegation surfaced, Riddle has since then issued a statement through his lawyer, and released a video on social media admitting that he did cheat on his wife with Cartwright, but never sexually assaulted Cartwright or anybody for that matter.

Throughout this time, Riddle had been wrestling on SmackDown and at the Payback pay-per-view on August 30.
