Maxxine Dupri Speaks About WWE Women’s Intercontinental Title Win, Does Not Think AJ Lee’s Involvement Took Away From The Moment

The new champ’s first interview.

A new WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion was crowned on the 11/17 Monday Night Raw at Madison Square Garden.

After a surprise appearance from AJ Lee, Becky Lynch became distracted during her defense against Maxxine Dupri, and Dupri capitalized to become the new champion.

Fresh off her title victory, Dupri sat down with Sam Roberts and Megan Morant on Raw Recap. She stated that it is the greatest moment of her life, and if nothing good happens going forward, that’s fine with her.

“In the moment, I was overflowing with emotion. I actually cannot believe that this is on my shoulder. I cannot believe that I beat Becky Lynch. I cannot believe that I just wrestled in Madison Square Garden. I cannot believe that my mom, my dad and my fiancé were all here to see it happen. This is, like, truly the best day of my life, and if nothing good happens after this, I’m okay.”

Speaking about AJ Lee’s involvement when asked about the moment, Dupri stated that she never felt like Lee being in the mix would take away from her moment.

“I’m gonna lie to you though, I wasn’t even thinking about that because I firmly believe that if you use a candle to light another candle, the other one doesn’t lose its flame. There is room for both of us to shine in that moment and I think we proved (that) tonight. Did you hear the crowd when she came out? It was insane and when Jess, our referee, hit that three-count… I had an out-of-body experience hearing the crowd roar. I was like, oh! We did it. We did it…”

Maxxine is now the third WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion. Lyra Valkyria, Becky Lynch, and now Dupri is that title’s lineage.
