Maya World: When I First Started on the Indies, My Goal Was to Make Everybody Know My Name. Thank God, It Was Tony Khan Who Noticed Me

Maya World says that initially her main goal was to make everyone remember her name.
Last year, Maya World and Hyan got signed to AEW after filling in for Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize against TayJay. Maya is currently set to fight Mercedes Mone in the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament at the upcoming AEW Forbidden Door pay-per-view.
Speaking with MuscleManMalcolm, she reflected on her progress so far in wrestling.
“Whenever I first started on the indies, one of my main goals was to make everybody know my name. It’s a delusional thing to say, but that’s exactly what I wanted to do. I did a little bit of that, then it was taking that momentum and making a name for myself so Tony Khan could notice, or someone else could notice. Thank God, it was Tony Khan, though. Things like that, every time I’m focused on something, it happens for me. It’s not divine intervention or something. I truly work for everything I’ve gotten. I wouldn’t say I’m not surprised, that sounds so bad, but I know what I put into getting here in AEW. Also at the time, I’d seen so my friends getting signed around the same time, a few months before my friends Jada Stone and Maggie Lee, like they had got signed. So being another of those younger girls who are a part of the next generation was a big goal of mine. Thankfully we did that, even if it came in an unethical way, it still happened. I’m here now, and I’m making the most of every opportunity now I’m here.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Maya reflected on what the match against Mercedes Mone at AEW Forbidden Door means to her. Click here to read more.
