Megan Bayne Says Her Friend’s Mom Came Up With The Name For Her ‘Megasus’ Character

Sometimes inspiration can come from unexpected places.

Independent wrestling star Megan Bayne recently appeared on the MCW Cast Podcast and would delve into how she developed her 'Megasus' character, calling back to receiving the name from one of her friend's mothers.

"During the pandemic, that's when I took time. For a while, I wanted to do a 'Goddessy' thing and had been thinking about it and putting some stuff together, but I was already wrestling at OVW as a Plain Jane girl. The fanbase there is kind of consistent weekly, so they knew who I was and I didn't know what the best transition was. Over the pandemic, it was the easiest way to do it because there was such a big break and I wasn't doing anything. I had all the time in the world to really get everything together and try stuff on, take pictures, do photoshoots and figure stuff out. Once wrestling started back up again, I was still in Kentucky and thinking about going back to OVW, but I felt my character wasn't ready, my presentation (wasn't ready). I knew how carry myself and I knew how I wanted to be perceived, but my presentation wasn't there. Eventually, I didn't know where I wanted to get back in the ring at, but I reached out to Damian because I had trained there for a few months before I went to Kentucky. He welcomed me back with open arms and I was able to get in the ring with all the other girls and he was the first one who was like, 'you think you're not ready because it's been a year and a half with the pandemic, but you're ready.' At first, he was a little skeptical of the Goddess thing, but he got behind it and with his help, it did take off. The name Megasus came from my friend's mom because my name is Megan and I wore that headpiece like a Pegasus and my friend's mom was like, 'you should call yourself Megasus, like Pegasus.' I was like, 'that's weird, no, I hate it.' Two days passed and I was like, 'it's kind of cool, actually.'"

Bayne has made several appearances on AEW Dark and AEW Dark: Elevation and most recently defeated Trish Adora at Beyond Wrestling's Heavy Lies The Crown event on 12/31.
