Melina is proud of her time as WWE Women's Champion but wishes that she could have had a little more time to grow as a performer before being given the championship.
Today, the women in WWE get the same opportunity as each and every male Superstar. today's women compete in the same match types on the same events and even have had the opportunity to headline WrestleMania.
Back in 2007, when Melina defeated Mickie James for her first-ever WWE Championship, she was able to do great things including competing in the first-ever women's Falls Count Anywhere match against Mickie James.
Speaking with Lilian Garcia on her podcast, Chasing Glory, Melina opened up about feeling undeserving of the championship at that time.
?I'm very proud of that. I'm very excited. That added to like, these are my dreams coming true. Like, I can't believe that they trusted us with this. Part of me wished, because I was a manager for so long that I wish that I reached the level of like "deserving." I wanted to be undeniable and amazing, I wanted to learn more,? she began. ?I don't know, I had a level of what I wanted to be and so for all that to happen so fast, so soon, I thought I was undeserving. So in my mind, I was telling myself I was undeserving. But, when I had the title, that's when I was like, 'no, I gotta make this count. I got to make this mean something. I need to step up.' It wasn't about [there not being any worth in the Women's Championship.]?
