Mercedes Mone Can’t Stop Beating Up Willow Nightingale

AEW All In opponents Mercedes Mone and Willow Nightingale both sat down with Renee Paquette on the latest episode of Close Up.

The dual interview was shot separately, but spliced together with Paquette steering the conversation.

They both discussed Mercedes’ injury during the NJPW Strong Women’s Title match. Willow said that she questioned if she deserved the title and had to build herself up. Mercedes said that Willow didn’t call or text her after the injury. “My career almost ended when I faced Willow Nightingale.”

Willow said that things got personal between them when Mercedes arrived in AEW and took the TBS Title from her. Willow said she had to refocus herself after that loss and Kris Statlander turning on her.

Mercedes recapped Willow preventing her from winning the AEW Women’s Tag Team Titles and ending her TBS Title reign. Willow said her victory over Mercedes felt awesome and vindicated her.

“My name makes her famous,” said Mercedes. Willow said that she believes she would be in the same spot even without Mercedes.

Asked about one thing that Mercedes might misunderstand about her, Willow replied that she does go through hardships, but she finds a way to smile and wants to find the silver lining.

Asked how she would feel if she lost, Willow said she can’t plan to lose. When Paquette mentioned to Mercedes that she is 1-2 against Willow, she said she earned those victories. Mercedes said she wants to take Willow’s smile because she hasn’t been able to smile for three years because she hasn’t won the AEW Women’s Title and Willow took her TBS Title.

Willow said she loved being the TBS Champion, but the Women’s Title is the one that matters and people look at.

Paquette asked Mercedes what happens if she loses, and Mercedes said that was not the question to ask.

Finally, Paquette asked what she would think of Willow 20 years from now, and Mercedes replied, “Nothing,” which led to a cinematic scene of Mercedes attacking Willow while she continued her answer, saying that All In would be the end of Willow.

Mercedes Mone will challenge Willow Nightingale for the AEW Championship on Sunday at AEW All In.
