Mercedes Mone: In Wrestling, You Have To Follow Your Passion; I Can't Stop And Let That Dream Die

Mercedes Mone says she will have a passion for wrestling until the day she dies.

Sasha Banks walked out of WWE on Monday, May 16, 2022. Since that time, Mercedes Mone has not addressed her exit from WWE. Nine months later, Mercedes is returning to the ring at NJPW Battle in the Valley as she aims to wrestle the IWGP Women's Championship away from KAIRI.

In an interview with Inside The Ropes' Alex McCarthy, Mercedes was asked about leaving WWE. While she was not ready to openly address the situation, the former WWE Women's Champion did say that when it comes to professional wrestling, everything you do must be filled with passion.

"First of all, if I was going to talk about it for the first time, it wouldn't be with you. When it comes to anything in wrestling, you have to go with your heart, your passion, and your soul. When it comes to me, that's all I have for the business is my passion and love for this. I love wrestling. Until the day that I die, I'll have a passion for this. I want to fight for this. I want to create magic for people all over the world to be able to do this. I feel like I have, and I just can't stop and let that dream die. So for me, I just have to keep on showing the world my love for this, my passion for this, and to show them that women's wrestling is where it's at and needs to be at the top and the headline. It needs to be respected and needs to be given the same opportunity, just like the men."

In previous interviews, Mercedes has opened up about why she elected to join NJPW, saying that the offer to kickstart a women's division in the top Japanese wrestling promotion in the world made things a very easy decision for her.

Fightful will have coverage of NJPW Battle in the Valley as it airs on Saturday, February 18 on FITE.
