Over the course of the past decade or so, women’s wrestling in the west has caught fire, with talent from across the world breaking out and being considered on the same level as their male counterparts as a result.
While speaking during the latest episode of The Mick And Kenny Show, Mick Foley explained why he has gravitated towards women’s wrestling.
“One of the things when people would ask me why I gravitated towards women’s wrestling from like 2015 on, when my kids called me down to watch Paige on NXT, and I was like, this is different. This is different. I have no scientific basis on this, but I think I gravitated towards it because the women wear their heart on their sleeve. We still are in a business where guys will hit each other, slap each other as hard as they can, give forms as hard as they can, and act like they’re not being hit, which seems downright silly to me. So there’s still this stoicism, tough guy mentality. But this is an emotional business. To me, seeing Terry Funk in Japan, which is a very macho, stoic, right? To see him in the early 80s, late 70s, weeping during interviews, it didn’t make him less tough. It made him even tougher, and the sweat would co-mingle with the tears and the blood, and it was just very compelling, and so I wondered to myself, why do I find myself enjoying women’s wrestling more? I think it’s because there’s more emotion. To me, there was no, listen, here in AEW, you get the best of everything. But I sense, not to say, hey, I see a little bit of myself in you, but no one was slotting you in for greatness, you know, when you went to Mikey’s school.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, Willow shared how Mick gifted her a letter prior to her match at AEW All In 2026. You can read more about that here.
