Mick Foley Reflects On Being Triple H’s First Sledgehammer Target, 'Good Kind Of Pain, But It Hurt'

Mick Foley reflects on being the first person Triple H ever hit with a sledgehammer.

Mick Foley is one of wrestling's greatest hardcore icons. While he's known for being a kind and gentle soul outside of the squared circle, he made a living competing in some of the most dangerous matches in the history of the industry. As such, he has been hit with almost every weapon ever utilized in professional wrestling.

One of the more famous wrestling weapons is Triple H's sledgehammer. Mick Foley is proud to say he's the first person that "The Game" ever hit with the iconic prop. Reflecting on that experience in a new video for Maven's YouTube channel, he says that Triple H did lay it in with that first sledgehammer shot, as it was being used for an angle to write Mick off television so that he could address a meniscus injury.

Still, Foley called it a "good" kind of pain.

"I'm glad to say I was the first guy Triple H hit, really, and he laid it in there. So he did it because I did need my meniscus repaired. I very rarely missed matches I was scheduled for. But when I realized I had an injury and it would be best to repair it, I would go to the company like, 'Hey, can we work through a storyline?' Then, when my storyline's done, let's see if we can't give somebody credit. I dare say that. I didn't know Triple H would still be using a sledgehammer to this day, but I was glad he did it.

"The secret was: he hit me in the meat of the thigh. It was in there. It hurt, but I wasn't injured," he said. "I think I only took it that one time. It did hurt. Good kind of pain, but it hurt."

Triple H would go on to use the sledgehammer for the rest of his career until his retirement in 2022.
