Mick Foley Says He Stole An Idea From WCW For His WrestleMania 22 Match With Edge

Mick Foley utilized an old WCW spot in his WrestleMania 22 match with Edge.

Appearing on WWE's The Bump to promote an upcoming episode of WWE Untold, Foley reminisced about his hardcore tilt with the Rated-R Superstar. One of the standout moments in the match came early on when, after being speared by Edge, Foley revealed that he had barbed wire wrapped around his midsection. The WWE Hall of Famer shared with the panel where he lifted the idea from, as well as some helpful advice Jake "The Snake" Roberts gave him in the early '90s. Here's what he said:

Federal Trade Commission Votes Approval To Ban Non-Compete Agreements

"Look, I'm admitting I stole that spot from Bret Hart and Bill Goldberg. Jake Roberts told me in 1992 that 'a wise man knows where to steal his material.' WCW had done a great spot, we call it a spot, where Goldberg had speared Bret, but Bret had a 25-pound weight taped to his midsection. So I thought, 'hey if it worked with a 25-pound weight it would work with barbed wire as well. So obviously I wasn't comfortable those first few moments, but I guess I was luring Edge into the spear. That was a great reaction when he hit me with the spear, but he was the one who came out the worse for wear. Then the reveal is yeah, I had barbed wire around my midsection. That's using the old bean right there [taps on his head]. That's what happens when you're a New York Times #1 Best-Selling author [laughs]."

Edge would defeat Foley at WrestleMania 22 after spearing him through a table that Lita had lit on fire. This match will be the subject of the next WWE Untold, which is scheduled to release on Sunday, April 4, 2021.

Fifteen years later, Edge is looking to pick up another win at WrestleMania when he takes on Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship. Fightful will have live coverage of WrestleMania on both Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11, 2021.
